Diss Otters SC AGM 2023

Diss Otters Swimming Club AGM 2023

The Diss Otters AGM is on Sunday 26th November 2023.

You can find the agenda here

All DOSC members and parents are invited to attend the AGM from 2.30-4.30pm at Hope Church, Vinces Lane, Diss. There will be a fun session running at the pool with Emily and Shirley for your swimmers during this time. This is a great opportunity for you to find out what is happening/ get involved more in the club.

There are some challenges that are facing the club which we need your help with for example:

• Recently announced pool closure for refurbishment

• Lack of qualified officials making galas more tricky to run (you can do this!)

• Need for more support with the DOSC committee to help to run the club (you can also do this!)

Please come and help - it is your club and getting involved helps you or your swimmer's journey in this sport along with allowing it to help others in theirs

Many thanks,

The DOSC Committee

Midsummer Madness Gala 8-9 July

A

Another weekend another swim meet for Diss Otters Swimming Club. This time it was the Midsummer Madness meet held at the UEA SportsPark. For some of the 25 DOSC swimmers this was their first experience of competing in an Olympic Size (50m) swimming pool. They all relished this opportunity producing some of their best performances of the season. We had multiple 40+ second personal bests produced in the 200m and 400m events and a huge 70% of swims resulted in personal best times.

What is great to witness is the huge amount of effort in training beginning to show through in competitions. New races skills executed, pacing spot on and every swimmer fighting for the wall and attacking the last 5m of the race. Well done to Noah, Hollie and Donald who all picked up medals this weekend.

Head Coach Laura said,

It is great to have the large number of swimmers yet again dedicated to competing this weekend. We have had some amazing performances, but the nicest thing is watching our swimmers be supportive, encouraging towards each other. The team spirit we demonstrate is brilliant”.

There is one final meet of the season before our summer break. The Great Yarmouth and Norwich Swans Sprint meet. A great opportunity to finish our season on a high.

Norfolk County Challenge Gala – 24-25/Jun

Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June saw a small team of 10 Diss Otters swimmers attend the annual Swim England Norfolk County Challenge competition at Dereham Leisure Centre.

Across the weekend we saw some great swimming with the group achieving 68% of new personal best times and there were some excellent performances despite the very hot conditions on poolside. Stand out swims across the weekend was from the 50m Butterfly swimmers with Jessica taking gold, Ruby taking Silver and Ella taking bronze. Ella also took on the mighty 200m Butterfly race collecting Gold in her age group. Donald continued his winning ways collecting medals of all colours throughout the weekend in numerous events.

It was also great to see one of our younger swimmers Eugene taking that next step in his swimming journey and competing in his very first open competition away from the Diss pool. He put in an excellent swim in the 50m Backstroke showing off an impressive new tumble turn he has learnt recently.

Throughout the weekend our swimmers achieved 3 Golds, 8 Silvers, 10 Bronze and 22 Top 8 Finishes. A fantastic achievement from such a small group of swimmers.

An amazing weekend of swimming from DOSC swimmers. Poolside was very warm, and the swimmers performed so well under the conditions. Great effort, enthusiasm, and encouragement of teammates throughout. Well done all.”
