Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June saw a small team of 10 Diss Otters swimmers attend the annual Swim England Norfolk County Challenge competition at Dereham Leisure Centre.
Across the weekend we saw some great swimming with the group achieving 68% of new personal best times and there were some excellent performances despite the very hot conditions on poolside. Stand out swims across the weekend was from the 50m Butterfly swimmers with Jessica taking gold, Ruby taking Silver and Ella taking bronze. Ella also took on the mighty 200m Butterfly race collecting Gold in her age group. Donald continued his winning ways collecting medals of all colours throughout the weekend in numerous events.
It was also great to see one of our younger swimmers Eugene taking that next step in his swimming journey and competing in his very first open competition away from the Diss pool. He put in an excellent swim in the 50m Backstroke showing off an impressive new tumble turn he has learnt recently.
Throughout the weekend our swimmers achieved 3 Golds, 8 Silvers, 10 Bronze and 22 Top 8 Finishes. A fantastic achievement from such a small group of swimmers.
“An amazing weekend of swimming from DOSC swimmers. Poolside was very warm, and the swimmers performed so well under the conditions. Great effort, enthusiasm, and encouragement of teammates throughout. Well done all.”

Whilst our junior and senior teams were competing at the UEA Sportspark in the Norfolk Inter Club Gala, two of our longstanding Masters swimmers were racing in Sheffield.
The British Masters Championships took place at Ponds Forge during the weekend of 2nd – 4th June.
Adam Lelean took home a bronze medal for his 400m individual medley event with his wife, Sally Lelean bringing home four bronze medals for her performances in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and 100m and 200m backstroke.
Another superb set of results from our long standing Masters swimmers! Well Done!
What an amazing evening our younger swimmers had at the Diss Summer Splash meet on Saturday 10th June, where we welcomed the North Norfolk Vikings team. The gala had a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with team-mates cheering on the swimmers in the water.
There were some fabulous swims throughout the evening with lots of new PBs but most importantly a significant improvement of skills from the Springboard meet in March. Every swimmer took away a participation medal and certificate where they could record their times from the event. A massive thanks to our amazing team captains Ella, Connie, Nathan, and Pascal and other senior DOSC swimmers who supported and cheered the swimmers on the whole evening. There were lots of high-5s and encouraging words and Pascal took charge of waving the DOSC flag proudly.
Our squad consisted of 25 swimmers from the age of 8-16, competing in 107 individual swims. Head Coach Laura and Coach Jamie were both delighted with the performance of the team and how well they behaved and supported each other.
Huge congratulations to everyone who competed, and massive thanks to all the volunteer helpers (adults and juniors), coaching staff and our ever-supportive band of race officials, which saw the gala run smoothly. As always, we are extremely grateful to those individuals. If you would like to know more about opportunities to help the club in various roles, please do make yourself known.
The development meet is designed to help younger, less experienced swimmers develop their racing skills and techniques it also gives them the chance to get races and times under their belts away from bigger open galas which in the future they will progress to. Races took place across all strokes over 25m and 50m together with a 100m Individual Medley race.
Diss Otters starts with our Foundation Squad, with younger new members joining the club once they have achieved stage 7 of the Swim England Learn to Swim Scheme. For more information on Diss Otters please visit our website www.dissotters.co.uk
DOSC Junior Team
DOSC Senior Team
Diss Otters Swimming Club recently competed in the Norfolk Inter Team Competition held at the UEA Sportspark with over 40 swimmers taking part. The event was split into two competitions with the junior swimmers competing in the morning session and senior swimmers competing in the afternoon session.
There were 45 events on the day- 13 team relays and 32 individual events. Points were awarded for each race. The team with highest accumulative total would be the winners. The event was very fast paced, and the racing was extremely exciting.
Diss Otters swimmers performed well, and we saw a large number of personal bests across both competitions. Notable performances were Noah Blair in the 100 Frontcrawl and Tayla Goodswen in the 50m Frontcrawl who won their respective events. We also had some fantastic second places from the relay teams. Everyone from the amazing aquatic family at DOSC were truely delighted with all the swimmers for tackling the challenge head on. The junior team finished in fourth place and senior team finished in eight place. Overall, the event was a roaring success with all swimmers pushing themselves to new limits, obtaining new personal bests and most importantly having fun. Diss Otters certainly were the loudest club on the pool deck.
Head Coach Laura Goodswen “On behalf of all the DOSC coaches we want to congratulate the swimmers on their successes. We are proud of every swimmer who put in so much effort and work during training to get to this point and we are very excited to see what the future will bring to this amazing swimming club. A big thanks to the parents and all the other supporters who came to watch, you helped make the event extra special”.
