Diss Otters Post

Doug Miller - Masters Coach

A bit about forming of the Diss Swimming club:
According to the Greeks first there was darkness then chaos (Big Bang).
In 1987 Diss swimming pool was roofed (yes it was previously an outdoor pool). Diss was given just 2 weeks to form a swimming club and claim pool time if not, no time would be allotted for at least a year. I arranged a meeting via the Diss Express on that night a committee was formed, chairman elected (me only person with any swimming knowledge) pool time booked chaos had arrived. Next 2 weeks we put posters in local schools, adverts in papers any way to get swimmers. The night came, breath held and by some magic uncertain nervous young people appeared coming through the door, Otters (to be) had been born from Chaos.

Ramblings of a mad man,
